1. A biguanide hypoglycaemic agent used in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification. Metformin improves improves glycaemic control by improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose. Pharmacological action: hypoglycaemic agents.
