Definition of NADP

1. Noun. A coenzyme similar to NAD and present in most living cells but serves as a reductant in different metabolic processes.

Exact synonyms: Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate
Generic synonyms: Coenzyme

Medical Definition of NADP

1. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate. A coenzyme composed of ribosylnicotinamide 5'-phosphate (nmn) coupled by pyrophosphate linkage to the 5'-phosphate adenosine 2',5'-bisphosphate. It serves as an electron carrier in a number of reactions, being alternately oxidised (NADP+) and reduced (NADPH). Chemical name: Adenosine 5'-(trihydrogen diphosphate), 2'-(dihydrogen phosphate), P'-5'-ester with 3-(aminocarbonyl)-1-beta-D-ribofuranosylpyridinium, inner salt (12 Dec 1998)
