Medical Definition of Insertin

1. Protein (30 kD) from chicken gizzard smooth muscle. Binds to the barbed ends of actin filaments and apparently allows insertion of further monomers. This entry appears with permission from the Dictionary of Cell and Molecular Biology (11 Mar 2008)
