Medical Definition of Rifamycins

A group of antibiotics characterised by a chromophoric naphthohydroquinone group spanned by an aliphatic bridge not previously found in other known antibiotics. They have been isolated from fermentation broths of streptomyces mediterranei.
Pharmacological action: antibiotics.
