1. An oral drug approved by the FDA for preventing MAC in people with AIDS and CD4 cell counts of less than 75. Rifabutin is also used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of active MAC infection. Possible side effects include neutropenia, eye and muscle irritation and a brown-orange discolouration of skin and urine. (09 Oct 1997)
