Terminal branch of chorda tympani joining the lingual nerve in the infratemporal fossa; conveys sensory fibres for taste from anterior two-thirds of tongue and presynaptic parasympathetic fibres destined for submandibular ganglion for innervation of submandibular and sublingual salivary glands.
