Medical Definition of Nimodipine

A calcium channel blockader with preferential cerebrovascular activity. It has marked cerebrovascular dilating effects, lowers blood pressure, and is effective in the therapy and/or prevention of cerebral vasospasm caused by stroke, cerebral haemorrhage, aneurysm, severe head injury, or cerebral ischemia.
Pharmacological action: antihypertensive agents, calcium channel blockers, vasodilator agents.
Chemical name: 3,5-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-, 2-methoxyethyl 1-methylethyl ester
