Medical Definition of Nervus laryngeus superior

1. A branch of the vagus nerve at the inferior ganglion; at the thyroid cartilage it divides into two branches; the internal laryngeal nerve, a sensory branch which supplies the mucous membrane of the larynx superior to the vocal folds, and the external laryngeal nerve, a motor branch which supplies the inferior pharyngeal constrictor and the cricothyroid muscle.
