Medical Definition of Nervus auricularis posterior

The first extracranial branch of the facial nerve, it passes behind the ear, supplying the posterior auricular muscle and intrinsic muscles of the auricle and, through its occipital branch, innervating the occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis muscle.
Synonym: nervus auricularis posterior.
