Medical Definition of Mouth ulcers

1. Circular painful ulcers with a surrounding red margin that are usually 1-2mm in diameter (can be up to 1.0 cm). Heal in 1-2 weeks but can be recurrent. Often caused by a virus in the Herpes family. Synonym: aphthous ulcers. (27 Sep 1997)
