Medical Definition of Glutamate-cysteine ligase

One of the enzymes active in the gamma-glutamyl cycle. It catalyses the synthesis of gamma-glutamylcysteine from glutamate and cysteine in the presence of ATP with the formation of ADP and orthophosphate.
