Medical Definition of Aminoglycoside 3'-phosphotransferase

1. A bacterial enzyme which confers resistance to the antibiotic neomycin.The APH gene is used as a selectable marker in genetic experiments, whereby bacterial cells which do not have the gene are eliminated from a population and thus selected against when exposed to neomycin. (13 Oct 1997)
