Medical Definition of Rastelli's operation
1. An operation for transposition of the great arteries plus ventricular septal defect and LV outflow obstruction; employs an intraventricular tunnel repair and a rerouting valved extracardiac conduit. For "anatomic" repair of transposition of the great arteries (ventriculoarterial discordance) with ventricular septal defect and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction; conduits are used to create left ventricular to aortic continuity and right ventricular to pulmonary artery continuity. All septal defects are obliterated as are any previously constructed palliative shunts. (05 Mar 2000)
