Medical Definition of Heyd's syndrome

1. Acute renal failure occurring in a patient with liver failure. The exact causal relationship in unclear, but those with alcoholic cirrhosis and alcoholic hepatitis are at greatest risk. Symptoms include decreased or absent urine production, jaundice, abdominal swelling, delirium, confusion, nausea and vomiting. Prognosis is very poor. (27 Sep 1997)
