Medical Definition of Branhamella

1. A subgenus of aerobic, nonmotile, nonsporeforming bacteria (family Neisseriaceae) containing Gram-negative cocci that occur in pairs with adjacent sides flattened; these organisms differ from those of the genus Moraxella and of other genera in the family by their DNA base content and composition. They occur in the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. The type species is Branhamella catarrhalis. Origin: Sara Branham (05 Mar 2000)
