Medical Definition of Bier's hyperaemia

1. An obsolete term for hyperaemia produced by Bier's method. Collateral hyperaemia, increased blood flow through abundant collateral channels when the circulation through the main artery to a part is arrested, as when the blood supply to one lung or to a portion of it is occluded the blood flow to the other lung or portion of a lung is increased. Constriction hyperaemia, obsolete term for hyperaemia produced by Bier's method. (05 Mar 2000)
