Medical Definition of Amphetamines
1. Analogs or derivatives of amphetamine. Many are sympathomimetic and central nervous system stimulators causing excitation, vasopression, bronchodilation, and to varying degrees, anorexia, analepsis, nasal decongestion, and some smooth muscle relaxation; these agents may be used for fatigue, narcolepsy, parkinsonism, hypotension, or appetite depression; since tolerance is quickly developed, they are potentially prone to abuse and psychic dependence.
