Medical Definition of Tyrosine decarboxylase

A pyridoxal-phosphate protein that catalyses the conversion of l-tyrosine to tyramine and carbon dioxide. The bacterial enzyme also acts on 3-hydroxytyrosine and, more slowly, on 3-hydroxyphenylalanine.
