Medical Definition of Tpa

1. Tissue plasminogen activator or TPA is thrombolytic agent used to dissolve blood clots. TPA is introduced into a vein (intravenous) or directly into a blocked artery. Because TPA is produced using recombinant DNA technology, it tends to be more expensive than urokinase or streptokinase. (27 Sep 1997)
