Medical Definition of Soft agar
1.
Semi solid agar used to gelate medium for culture of animal cells. Placed in such a medium, over a denser agar layer, the cells are denied access to a solid substratum on which to spread, so that only anchorage independent (usually transformed) cells are able to grow.
