Medical Definition of Salmoniformes
1. An order of fish comprising pikes, salmons, mudminnows, smelts, barreleyes, slickheads, trouts, and many other families - totalling 24 - with 145 genera and 508 species. They are both marine and freshwater fish, found in all oceans and are quite numerous in the northern hemisphere. (12 Dec 1998)
