An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyses the reaction 6-phospho-d-gluconate and NADP+ to yield d-ribulose 5-phosphate, carbon dioxide, and NADPH. The reaction is a step in the pentose phosphate pathway of glucose metabolism.
