1. Cellulose that has been oxidised by NO2 or other oxidizing agents to the point where all or most of the glucose residues have been converted to glucuronic acid residues; used as an adsorbent in chromatography or other adsorption processes. See: oxidised cellulose. (05 Mar 2000)
