Medical Definition of Nervus gluteus superior
1.
Arises from the fourth and fifth lumbar and first sacral nerves, and supplies the gluteus medius and minimus and tensor fasciae latae muscles (abductors and medial rotators of the hip joint). A lesion of this nerve causes the pelvis to drop on the unsupported side when the foot is lifted off the ground (Trendelenburg sign).
Synonym: nervus gluteus superior.
