2-mercaptoethanesulfonic acid sodium salt. An inhalation expectorant that breaks disulfide bonds in the mucopolysaccharides of mucus. It is used to treat chronic bronchitis and other respiratory diseases. Coenzyme m (2-mercaptoethanesulfonic acid) is involved in the methanogenesis pathway.
Pharmacological action: expectorants.
