Medical Definition of Mammary tumour virus

A member of the retrovirus subfamily Oncornavirinae that can cause mammary adenocarcinoma in a genetically susceptible strain of mice under appropriate hormonal influence.
These viruses are distinct from the murine leukaemia-sarcoma complex, and are commonly latent in wild and laboratory mice.
