Medical Definition of Mallory-weiss tear

1. Lacerations in the oesophageal mucosa that occur close to ot at the junction of the oesophagus and the stomach. Mallory-Weiss tears occur as the result of forceful vomiting or coughing. Symptoms include vomiting blood. (27 Sep 1997)
