Medical Definition of Limb bud

1. The limbs of vertebrates start as outpushings of mesenchyme surrounded by a simple epithelium. The distal region is referred to as the progress zone. There has been extensive study of positional information within the limb bud that determines, for example: the proximal distal pattern of bone development and the anterior posterior specification of digits.
