A Linnaean genus of parasitic Entomostraca, the same as the family Lernaeidae.
The genus is restricted by modern zoologists to a limited number of species similar to Lernaea branchialis found on the gills of the cod.
Origin: NL, fr. L. Lernaeus Lernaean, fr. Lerna, Gr, a forest and marsh near Argos, the mythological abode of the hydra.
