Acute, fulminating form, diabetics, alcoholics, chronic form, associated with underlying lung disease, unusual in infants and children (but may be epidemic), mortality about 50% (less in epidemic form), death often in 48 hours, XR findings: alveolar exudate most likely to be increased lung volume (12 Dec 1998)
