1. One of the pathological startle syndromes found in isolated parts of the world, characterised by greatly exaggerated responses, such as jumping, flinging the arms and yelling, to minimal stimuli. Synonym: jumping Frenchmen of Maine disease, jumper disease of Maine. (05 Mar 2000)
