Medical Definition of Iloprost

A stable synthetic analog of epoprostenol but with a longer half-life than the parent compound. The drug has vasodilator and antiplatelet activities and improves the fibrinolytic activity in patients with atherosclerotic disease, thereby providing them with further antithrombotic protection. It is also used in the treatment of raynaud's disease and provides dose-dependent protection of the heart against some of the deleterious effects of ischemia and reperfusion.
Pharmacological action: platelet aggregation inhibitors, vasodilator agents.
