A compound muscle, consisting of the iliacus musculus and psoas major musculus.
Origin, The transverse processes of L1-L5; insertion, lesser trochanter of the femur; action, flexes the thigh, laterally rotates and adducts thigh.
Synonym: musculus iliopsoas.
