1. Oral medications used to treat type II diabetes (adult onset diabetes). These medications lower blood sugar by increasing the production of insulin in the pancreas. Examples include: glyburide, glipizide, acetohexamide, glucamide, Diabinese, Diabeta, Micronase, metformin hydrochloride and Glucotrol. Origin: Gr. Glykys = sweet, haima = blood (27 Sep 1997)
