Medical Definition of Hexose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase

An enzyme that catalyses the transfer of ump from udpglucose to galactose 1-phosphate, forming udpgalactose and glucose 1-phosphate. Deficiency in this enzyme is the major cause of galactosaemia.
