Medical Definition of Harlequin chromosome
1.
A chromosome which, when stained, produces a banded pattern of alternating light and dark segments (also called a harlequin pattern).
It is made by treating a cell with 5'-bromodeoxyuridine, the chemical incorporates into the cells DNA and when stained is lighter than the DNA around it.
