Medical Definition of Funduscopy
1.
Observation of the optic disc, retina and blood vessels. May be examined by direct or indirect ophthalmoscopy. In direct ophthalmoscopy the examiner uses an ophthalmoscope the size of a flashlight to shine a beam of light into your eye. In indirect ophthalmoscopy a head lamp device is used and a much brighter light. Visualisation of the retina is important in conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension and conditions that cause increased intracranial pressure.
