Medical Definition of Ferrochelatase
1.
An enzyme widely distributed in cells and tissues. It is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane and catalyses the formation of haem from protoporphyrin ix and ferrous ions during the terminal step in the haem biosynthetic pathway.
