Medical Definition of Fasciclins

1. Cell adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily found in the central nervous system of insects. Involved with fasciculation of axons and probably in pathfinding during morphogenesis of the nervous system. The sequence of fasciclin II shows that it shares structural motifs with a variety of vertebrate CAMs. See: contactin, F11, neurofascin, TAG 1, Drosophila neuroglian.
