Medical Definition of Expanded access

1. Refers to any of the FDA procedures (compassionate use, parallel track and treatment IND see) that distributes experimental drugs to patients who are failing on currently available treatments for their condition and also are unable to participate in ongoing clinical trials. (09 Oct 1997)
