Medical Definition of Endonexin

1. Calcium dependent membrane binding protein located on the endoplasmic reticulum of fibroblasts. Isolated protein will bind to liposomes if 1-10 M calcium is present but not if the liposomes contain sphingomyelin or cholesterol. An analogous calcium dependent membrane binding protein, synexin, codistributes with endonexin and binds particularly to phosphatidyl serine. Another of the same class is p36, a component of brush border membrane, a target for the src gene tyrosine kinase and that binds phosphatidyl serine or inositol.
