Definition of Echo vowel

1. Noun. (linguistics) When a word ends with a vowel and glottal stop and it comes at the end of the phrase, the echo vowel is the same as the vowel before the glottal stop, but it's whispered and faint, as in ya'a for ya "arrow." The echo vowel isn't written. ¹
