Medical Definition of Desulfurococcaceae
1. A family of thermoproteales consisting of anaerobic cocci which utilise peptides, proteins or carbohydrates facultatively by sulfur respiration or fermentation. There are four genera: desulfurococcus, pyrodictium, staphylothermus, and thermodiscus. (12 Dec 1998)
