Medical Definition of Desquamative inflammatory vaginitis
1. An acute inflammation of the vagina of unknown cause, characterised by grayish pseudomembrane, free discharge, and easy bleeding on trauma; the discharge contains pus and immature epithelial cells, although oestrogen levels are normal. Vaginitis emphysematosa, vaginitis characterised by accumulation of gas in small connective tissue spaces lined by foreign-body giant cells. Synonym: pachyvaginitis cystica, vaginitis cystica.
