Medical Definition of Cro protein
1.
Protein synthesised by bacteriophage lambda in the lytic state. The cro protein blocks the synthesis of the lambda repressor (that is produced in the lysogenic stage and inhibits cro protein synthesis). Production of the cro protein in turn controls a set of genes associated with rapid virus multiplication.
