Medical Definition of Cotransport

1. The linked, simultaneous transport one substance across a membrane, coupled with the simultaneous transport of another substance across the same membrane in the same direction. The transport of sodium from high to low concentration can provide the energy for transport of the second species up a concentration gradient. See: secondary active transport. (21 Jun 2000)
