Incision through the skin and cricothyroid membrane for relief of respiratory obstruction; used prior to or in place of tracheotomy in certain emergency respiratory obstructions.
Synonym: coniotomy, cricothyroidotomy, inferior laryngotomy, intercricothyrotomy.
