Medical Definition of Cochleostapedial reflex
1. Contraction of the stapedius muscle in response to a loud sound; this is a protective reflex which with the reflex contraction of the tensor tympani reduces the amplitude of the vibrations of the tympanic membrane and ossicles. (05 Mar 2000)
