1. One of a group of inducible antibacterial proteins purified and characterised from Hyalophora cecropia (silkmoth) pupae and now found in several other species of endopterygote insects. Small basic proteins that cause lysis of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. (13 Nov 1997)
