Medical Definition of Carfecillin

1. The phenyl ester of carbenicillin that, upon oral administration, is broken down in the intestinal mucosa to the active antibacterial. It is used for urinary tract infections. Pharmacological action: anti-infective agents, urinary, penicillins. Chemical name: 4-Thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylic acid, 6-((1,3-dioxo-3-phenoxy-2-phenylpropyl)amino)-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-, (2S-(2alpha,5alpha,6beta))- (12 Dec 1998)
